The Weekend in Review

On the TractorThe girls took advantage of the fact that Dad had a bike race to officiate in Norfolk, so Mom loaded up the "YDMOBILE" and headed north Friday night.

The hotel where we stayed, the Norfolk Lodge & Suites, is fairly new and on the west end of town. From the outside, its massive structure reminds you of a Great Wolf Lodge-type hotel. Inside, the rooms were spacious and ours even opened up poolside, where a large swimming pool and hot tub awaited.

The girls loved the hot breakfasts served every morning, as well as the chocolate chip cookies that were at the front desk each night. They also enjoyed playing miniature golf on the course outside, though our round was cut short by lightning.

Saturday, we went to a "polka mass" at the Catholic Church. It coincides every year with the parish festival. Yes, the songs were polkas. No, they didn't play the "beer barrel" one.

Sunday was one of the busiest days for us the entire summer. While Dad was at the bike race, Mom and the girls hit the Norfolk mall (there is one?) and a McDonald's with a little playland inside. Then it was time to pick up Dad and hit the road for Wayne.

Olivia at McDonald'sTimes change and Wayne is a perfect example. Where houses once stood on the Wayne State College campus, now sit parking lots. Roads are being widened and more buildings are being built on the campus. Mom had a hard time fathoming it all. We stopped by to see her friend Diane and her family, then headed off to Wakefield, where we took in part of a Legion baseball game with the Eatons.

The girls hit their third playground of the day at Wakefield (they also got to spend time at a park in Wayne) and thought it was the best of them all. Then it was time to hustle into the van and head home - but not before going through Pender (which led Lauren to say she had a "blender in Pender.") and West Point (to stop at McDonald's).

Wow! Veronica is 2 feet tall, according to the Hamburgler! (That is the Hamburgler, isn't it?)

Nice to see she's more "verticle" these days than "horizontal."

I confirmed by looking at the archives that Veronica was 21" (inches) long at birth - back in Sept '05.
Two feet (2') = 24"
Three feet (3') = 36"
Most babies grow 1-1.5" per month for the first four months and 0.5-1" per month for the rest of their first year. (Source: American Academy of Pediatrics & the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention)
If Veronica is growing like an average baby, she should be between 28"-33" at her 10th month mark (July 19). This picture is dated past that date. Therefore, it makes sense that Veronica is longer (taller) than two feet.
21" + 4*1" + 6*0.5" = 28"
21" + 4*(1.5)" + 6*1" = 33"
Life is surely more interesting at the YD house with a more vertical Veronica.

I've read that when you are three years old, you can double your height to find out how tall you will eventually grow.

In Emily's case, she was a shade over three-feet at three years old.

I think you are thinking of the "two times two" method, Sean. "Although there are many methods to predict a child's future height, one that is popular is to just double their height at age 2 years." (Source: Kid's Height Calculator) It is a popular method to predict kid's adult height.
Emily and Virginia were both a couple of inches over three feet at age three and there is no way they are going to make six feet tall. Height predictors have them between 5'5" and 5'7" depending on the method and which kid.
