The One That Got Away

The undefeated season for Emily and Dad's basketball team came to an end today. St. Peter and Paul ran out to an 8-0 lead before St. Mary's stormed back. But in the end, missed free throws came back to haunt the Spartans in a 15-11 loss.

St. Peter and Paul (13-0) wins the regular season title, while Emily and Dad's team finishes the regular season 11-1. They'll have to get things turned around quickly, since they play Monday night against either Christ the King or Our Lady of Lourdes.

Unfortunately, Dad was not able to be there for today's game, but got some great help from his assistant coach (Anna, shown seated on the floor) and some of the parents (Mr. Janda, standing). But when you've rarely trailed the entire season and you get down 8-0, it can seem like an insurmountable task. Many of the girls cried afterwards since so much was riding on the game.

A win on Monday would force a rematch between the two teams on Wednesday night. Dad is changing his flight out of Los Angeles Sunday so he can be there Monday night to coach the girls to a win.

I remember Jackie going through the same situation. I just kept reassuring her look how well they did. We can't win all the time.

Give Emily hugs.
