Down The Chute
It crossed Dad's mind over the weekend that none of the girls have ever fallen down the laundry chute that's built into the floor of the girls' bathroom. If it hasn't happened yet, it's bound to occur with YD Girl No. 5, right?
Wrong.
Sunday night, we heard cries and screaming from the bathroom. It was Emily. She came hobbling out of the bathroom, holding a broken towel hanger rod. Dad couldn't figure out why she was crying and what the broken rod had to do with it. That is, until Julia explained what had happened.
Emily had been trying to be helpful so she was stomping down on a huge pile of laundry in the chute. The force of all those clothes pushed open the laundry door in the basement, sending the clothes - and Emily - down the chute. Because the chute is fairly narrow, Emily only fell in up to mid-thigh. But the friction from the edges of the chute burned the back of her thighs and scraped them enough to nearly draw blood.
It was quite a scare, as you can imagine. And it made for a painful night's sleep. Fortunately, the burn cream Mom put on helped quite a bit. And because Dad had already canceled tonight's basketball practice, Emily will have a couple days to heal up.
