League Champions, Tournament Runners-Up

Sometimes second place isn't all that bad. Yes, a trophy or two can make the sting of a loss go away.

Such was the case Sunday when Dad and Emily's basketball team fell short in the CYO championship game against St. Bernadette. The contest was played in the "Cougar Dome" at Gross High School. They even did pre-game introductions and announced every basket and foul: "Foul is on Emily YD. That's her third personal, sixth team foul."

The Spartans couldn't solve St. Bernadette's 1-3-1 zone and fell behind 13-4 early on. It was a 23-10 deficit at halftime but St. Mary's made it closer in the second half before falling 27-21. Unfortunately, Emily didn't have her offensive output that she's shown lately and finished the game without a point.

The good news was that St. Mary's won the league regular season title, thus the first place trophy.
