Day At The Races
Dad loaded up the girls Saturday morning for yet another weekend of bike race officiating. This time, it was off to Branched Oak Lake state recreation area for the first day of the Spring Cycling Classic. Unfortunately, the weather wasn't very spring-like, with temperatures in the low 40s and a bone-chilling wind that pushed the wind chill down to 31.
Julia (pictured at right with Dad) was a big hit with her Rock Racing gear. Unlike Norfolk two weeks ago, the people at this race knew all about the team.
The girls accompanied Dad in one of the officials cars during the race. We watched the cyclists battle the wind and cold, then returned to the finish line to await their arrival. The girls enjoyed sack lunches and they made funny signs that they hung in the front windshield. They also watched cyclists choose not to use the "real" facilities:
"Dad! Look at that guy running down by the tree! Now he's running back up here."
It was also a fun trip since Uncle Neil was also along to officiate. We stopped at Dairy Queen and Arby's - and McDonald's on the way home. (Did we mention it was sleeting?)
Thanks to John Peterson of JohnPetersonphotography.com for the nice photo of Julia and Dad.
