Spelling Champ!

The celebratory group at the spelling bee
included Aunt Jean (left) and Grandma Bep (right).

All the hard work and studying that Lauren put in for this year's spelling bee paid off Tuesday morning when she defeated seven other top spellers from grades one through four.

Lauren spelled some tough words (astronaut and beautiful) as competitor after competitor bowed out. After about a half-hour of spelling, it was down to Lauren and a first grade classmate of Julia. But Lauren came through, spelling a word that the first grader missed, as well as the "winning" word. (Which Mom could not recall.)

"Fertilizer" did not make the list, apparently, and Dad would venture to guess that Lauren is enjoying her trophy and certificate a lot more than she would some cash for spelling "poop" instead.

Lauren poses with her principal, Mr. Huben (left), and Mom.

Wow! Congratulations! Which side of the family gave you the spelling gene? My guess is the Begley side!

It was probably the Begley side!

By the way, the word the first-grader missed was "teach" (Lauren recalls she spelled it "teatch".)

She then successfully spelled "instruments" to capture the title!

Way to go, Queen Bee Lauren!!

Hello??? What do you think the Aube's are? A bunch of ninnies who can't spell? I happen to be a good speller myself and received high marks on my report card in Spelling when I was little.

Thanks a lot, Dee Dee and Barb!!!

Lauren, You Rock!!! I really believe that she gets her smarts from all of the drugs that she got in the NICU! ;)

Well, speaking from personal experience, I know that Aunt Jean has the spelling gene and I thought that it was passed from the Begley side since DS #1 won our Spelling bee in the 8th grade. I bet she got a double dose of the spelling gene since she alo got it from the Aube side.

But, she also worked hard, so we can't discount that!

Cousin Barb :-)
