Sleepovers, Snow And No School

The weekend continues today because there is no school for the YD girls. They can thank Martin Luther King, Jr., for the day off. And Mom gets to sleep in, too, after a weekend of a lot of hard work.

Friday night, Lauren had a sleepover guest from her class. Terese seemed to have so much fun playing with Lauren's sibilings that Lauren came complaining to Mom and Dad that her sisters were "stealing" her friend. So some "private" playtime was arranged between the two.

Saturday morning was Emily and Dad's ballgame (see recap below), followed by more playing since Terese got to stay at our house as long as she wanted. Saturday night, we packed up the Suburban and headed off to Cici's for their pizza and dessert buffet. The highlight was when Veronica lost her "flubber" ball behind a set of seats. All four of her sisters crowded underneath the two tables where it ended up in an attempt to retrieve it. Thanks to Emily's strength, Julia's flexibility and Lauren's skinny arm, they were able to get the ball back. Olivia consoled Veronica during the whole process and Lauren ended up finding a pepper shaker behind the seat in the process.

Sunday, Emily and Lauren went with Mom to the Bellevue Public Library so Emily could work with a classmate on a school project. Dad and the rest of the girls tried to survive their absence by watching the afternoon football games (and Barney). Mom then made a much-needed trip to Sam's Club to replenish our food supply. It's not an easy task shopping by yourself. And it was made even more difficult when the extreme cold (single-digit temperatures) broke a plastic bag of rolls, spilling them all over the driveway.

By the way, it was supposed to snow up to four inches on Sunday. But we only ended up with a dusting from Sunday morning (before church). Lauren and Julia made quick work of it with their snow shovels, meaning Dad didn't have to snow blow or shovel.

On today's agenda? More cleaning (of course) and a basketball practice for Emily. Lauren and Emily also begin their quest to earn a hamster. It seems simple enough: they must keep their room clean for two weeks straight. If their room is untidy, the clock starts all over again. We'll keep you posted on how they do.

Ok, who is writing this? It can't be Sean since the word "hamster" made it's way into the blog entry. You know, it starts off with one little hamster, then before you know it, your house is a petting zoo! Can't wait to see if the girls can keep their room clean long enough to earn a furry little friend!
